Description

On Mamen's listing: Trip to the upper Imen (to Olet, Solon and Oronchen country).
Barga, N. Manchuria, 1932.
2. 16/3/32. Elkesen Sangin & group of var. Solons, nearer.

Mamen’s description: “Elkesen Jangin and group of var. Solons at his seal festival.”

Two of the three officials in the middle are given the name from the left as Mokhawan, Elkeson. They are wearing official court dress of Manchu dynasty, ignoring revolution of 1911. Glass balls that show the rank of officials are seen on the top of the hats of the three as well as of the one at the most right. Three men are holding pipes and Elkesen’s is the longest and he is also wearing a string of Buddhist counting beads. Bags of snuff bottle or tobacco are seen worn from the belts of whom are wearing short overcoats. All the people in the photo are wearing hats and it seems that there is a clear distinction between hats of ordinary people and officials. All people are wearing boots. [U. Borjigin 28/5/2002]
