Description

On Mamen’s listing: Barga, N. Manchuria 1931.
Bondur Bogdo’s Festival of the Hailar Obo. Sept. 30th 1931.
72. Elderly Barga – Buriat [inserted text ‘Chipchen’]. 30/9.

On Mamen’s listing: “Elderly Barga -Chipchen at Panchen Lama’s oboo ceremony.” He is wearing a short silk jacket over the long gown. There must be a belt inside the jacket assumed from the bag of snuff bottle worn.
There are only a few photos of old Bara people in Lindgren’s collection. This might be because Old Barga people were in the north of Hailar and Lindgren’s field work site in the north of Hailar was mainly Reindeer Tungus people while her field work on pastoral peoples were mainly in the south of Hailar.
