Description

On Mamen’s listing: “Chonotin Bollock.
Barga, N.W Manchuria, 1931.
81. Ditto [Naran Bö & members of camp]. 29/6.”

This is a group of Hamnigans in Shinehen area. The long garments, hats of both men and women are just the same as those of Buryats. The fourth from right underneath is Naran Shaman who was called by Mongolian “bö”. Even if he is not in his shamanic costume, he is still wearing three big mirrors from his neck. The woman on his right is his wife with her baby on her leg. The upper part of her hair is tightly winded up with hair thread. The second man from left is holding a string of Buddhist counting beads. The tent behind is said to be Lindgren and Mamen’s. [U. Borjigin, 28/5/2002]
