Description

On Mamen’s listing: “Chonotin Bollock.
Barga, N.W Manchuria, 1931.
76. Naran Bö (close up front). 29/6.”

This is a so-called Buryatized Transbaikal Tungus shaman by Lindgren. His head-dress has antlers with twelve prongs which was consisted of adding two antlers together. There are some bells of open type on the breast. Lindgren noted that she had seen a bow and arrow on Naran’s dress and they really are in one of Mamen’s photos. His dress also has tails. Comparing to other shamans in the collection, Naran and Reindeer Tungus Shamaness have tassels covering over the eyes. [U. Borjigin, 4/10/2002]
