Description

Studio portrait of a member of the Armed Native constabulary in fighting or taqa military review dress. The long hair at the left side of his head is twisted into long tobe plaitlets, and he has a batinivuaka boar tusk pendant at his throat. He is wearing a fringed white barkcloth iwabale shoulder sash and a waist sash, above which is his A.N.C. issue cartridge belt, and has a black likusausauwai overskirt over his malo loincloth. The muscles of his arms above the elbow and his legs just below the knee are braced with black vesasausauwai wrappings fringed with glass trade beads. Across his knees is a Snider-Enfield rifle.
