Description

Studio portrait of “Dai Valu” [Daivalu] of “Macuata” [Macuata, northern Vanualevu] a young Fijian man, who has flower ornaments in his hair and tobe tufts growing at the back of his neck. He has an interesting series of ornamental cicatrices on his upper right arm, and is wearing a batinivuaka boar tusk pendant, a fringed white barkcloth waist sash secured by an Armed Native Constabulary belt, and a white isulu skirt, and is holding what looks like an officer’s swagger stick.
