Description
Dufty studio portrait of a sotia or ovisa of the Armed Native Constabulary. The hair at the front of his hair has been dyed black, but the longer tobe at the back of his head have been left lime-bleached, so are two-coloured. (Bands of multicoloured hair were fashionable in pre-Christian Fiji.) He has a batinivuaka boar tusk pendant at his throat, wears the blue A.N.C. issue pullover type shirt with its elbow-lengthed sleeves, and has an ANC issue belt buckled above his fringed white barkcloth wasit sash.
