Description

Dufty studio portrait of “Kesi of Waikava town, Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu”. Waikava (or Fawn Harbour, after the wreck of the brig Fawn, is on the south coast of the Natewa Peninsula, east of Savusavu, southern Vanualevu). Kesi is wearing the blue jersey-type shirt of the Armed Native Constabulary, with its elbow-lengthed sleeves, with a fringed white barkcloth waist sash. 1875 - 1876. [Fergus Clunie, 26/7/2003]
