Description
Studio photograph of a pair of men carrying baskets of dalo (taro) (left) and uvi (yams) on a shoulder pole. The pole is actually a fine titoko or elder’s stave which would be unlikely to have been put to such a purpose. Both are dressed in cloth isulu, the man in front, whose hair is coated with lime or ashes, also wearing a leather belt. The man at rear holds a spear, the man at front a smaller titoko stave. J.W.
