Description

This is a montage made up of a number of portraits of individuals in oval frames. Some of the white men have names printed underneath; including Captain Fuller, Mr Newmarch, Mr Freeman, Mr Holmes, Mr Ryley, and Mr Mac Callum. A few of the portraits are duplicated in the photographic collections (see Associated Reference). [Alex Nadin, 30/9/2003, updated JD 22/2/2012]

Pencil note on back: "The original of this is at the Royal Empire Society in London". F.H. Dufty carte-de-visite composite photograph of members of the "Fiji House of Delegates" of the Cakobau government of the early 1870s. Ratu Seru Cakobau himself is at centre top. Directly below him, over the "OF" is Enele Ma’afu’otu’itoga or Ma’afu, the Tongan chief who had gained sway over much of northern and eastern Fiji. Left of Ma’afu is Ratu Timoce Tavanavanua, Cakobau’s second son. Right of Ma’afu is Ratu Savenaca, Cakobau’s brother. To the right of Cakobau is the Premier, the notorious George Austin Woods.
