Description

Studio portrait of ‘Yadi Unaisi’ of Bau, with flowers or artificial flowers in her hair, and a trade bead necklace at her throat, and wearing a white off-the-shoulder bodice or vinivoa (literally “pinafore”) with elbow length sleeves with bands of coloured trim and streamers falling from the left shoulder, plus what looks like a fringed travel rug for an isulu skirt. She is holding a large iirimasei fan, made from a single leaf of the niumasei or fan-palm, Pritchardia pacifica.
