On Catalogue Card for duplicate print P.245.ACH1: “Different tattoo of the Australian woman.”

Composite plate of four half-length portraits of Aboriginal women showing their differing cicatrisation and tattoo patterns on their fronts and back according to their regions.
The top two portraits show women from “On the Darling River 143o & 31 1/2o." The woman on the top left shows cicatrisation and tattoo patterns radiating down from her breasts, and horizontal stripes on her stomach. The woman on the top right has eighteen fine vertical lines grouped in five rows.
The lower two women portrayed are from “On the Murray River 139o & 31 1/2o" from the Coorong Rivers and Guichen Bay area. The tattoos and cicatrisation of the woman on the bottom left, consists of small, half-inch long ridges and raised dots making an elegant arch, vertical on the chest and more horizontal on the stomach. On her back the woman on the bottom right has arches going from the shoulders down to her hips. [See Blandowski 1862, pl.75]
