On Catalogue Card for duplicate print P.291.ACH1: “The natives burning a dead. N.S.W.”
The burning of a deceased person on a grass funeral pyre, with a group of men in attendance. The deceased man is wrapped in bark and placed on a pyre of firewood topped with grass, and two men are placing a wooden? or bark? plank on top of the man. A man is kneeling on the ground in front of the pyre with two lit tinders ready to light the pyre. A man in the background is bringing additional firewood for the pyre. [JD 23/8/2007] [WV 7/4/2009]
