On Catalogue Card for duplicate print P.289.ACH1: “Natives smoking a dead to a mummy on Lake Alexandrina.”
The smoking of a deceased man to a mummy by Aboriginals from Lake Alexandrina. As the fat of the deceased runs into the fire, the warriors surround the body, put their spears at rest and give themselves up to grief. A group of six? men holding spears and shields form a circle around the fire and inside the semicircle of a vegetation shelter. In the foreground on the left is two women? squatting on a circular mat, and a third woman standing, possibly all in mourning?. In front of the women are two spears, a shield, and two boomerangs; and a pile of firewood is in the foreground on the right. In the background are several individuals and vegetation shelters.
