Description

On Catalogue Card for duplicate print P.158.ACH1: "Procuring heliman and fishing." [typed text, circa 1935]

Four Birpai people of which two men, Peter Budge and Charlie Murray, are carving out a shield from the bark and timber of a tree. Deep grooves have been cut in the shape of a shield and stones are put in the grooves. The men have short beards and moustaches and are using stone tools to make the shield. They also have boomerangs hanging in their loincloths.
In the background there is a woman, Grace Bugg, holding fish and standing at the edge of the river. The young man, Billy Bugg, is holding a long fishing spear. The landscape in the background consists of small trees.
