Description

Pen and ink drawing of a Nayama (Evenki woman's coat) collected by Ethel Lindgren during her Northwest Manchuria expedition, 1931 - 1932.
The Nayama is now in the care of MAA, reference 1935.777, and described as: "Nayama. Long women’s coat made from wapiti or elk skin. Front opening with long sleeves and deep collar. Collar, cuffs and outer edge trimmed with band of dark brown fabric, possibly cotton. Five leather fastenings with fringe trim along front. Dyed with bark of dulgikte tree mixed with Juniper ashes. Stitched closed at collar.
