Description
A young boy standing with three ‘modern’ wood carvings: a woman, a leopard, and a policeman.
The woman figure is standing holding a (wooden) umbrella in her hand. She has an elaborate coiffure parted in the middle and painted black. Her face is stylised and she has black eyebrows, almond shaped eyes with black pupils, nose and open mouth, her ears are adorned with earrings. She has a black painted neck and necklace, extended umbilicus, black painted loin covering (resembling beads?), striped leg rings and shoes, painted black with white spots for lacing.
The leopard figure is standing on four legs, with a large rounded face and tail. His mouth is open and his tongue is hanging out; it is decorated in black spots on a pale background, the paws are painted white with claws.
The policeman figure is standing wearing a uniform and holding a rifle in one hand. He is wearing a black hat on top of his pale face which is accentuated with almond shaped eyes, nose, rounded mouth and ears. The uniform is black but painted white to define the buttons, rank, and belt buckle, around the waist are truncheons.
In the background are trees and vegetation. [Alicia Fentiman 8/11/2007]
