Description

A process of sago production underway. The image shows pounded sago still lying inside the pit of the sago palm waiting to be transported to a trough where it will then be washed to extract the starch for eating. Sago pounders, made from stones attached to an inverted Y-shaped handle are lying about next to a container made from the limbum (black palm) leaf. The pulped sago will be put into the container before taking it to the trough located somewhere close to a stream or pool of fresh water [Andrew Moutu 24/02/04].
