Description

Inscription on the slide indicates that this is a view of a new settlement of the village that has been abandoned. Why has this village been abandoned is an intriguing question? In some parts of Papua New Guinea, such as the Fuyuge of Central Province with whom the anthropologist Eric Hirsch worked, houses are created for ritual purposes and then abandoned after the ritual is completed. Could this be a comparable situation in the Imonda area? [Andrew Moutu 24/02/04]
