Description
A large house with walls and thatched roof of sago palm leaves. A local man is sitting with his back to the entrance and a child sitting next to him. A young European man is inside the house, looking out, with a group of people in the background. The manner in which the local man is sitting inside at the door of the house suggests that he is a guest in that house. The house probably belongs to the Europeans in the photograph. [Andrew Moutu 19/02/04]
This is the Townsends’ house in Yereno, on the Wogamus River, East Sepik. The man in the doorway is Bill Townsend. [Mark Elliott 02/03/04]
