Description

A view of a village located along the banks of a large river, from the opposite bank. Photograph taken during the dry season [April – September]; the water level has receded and the river-bed on one side of the river is exposed. On the other side one can see the river eating into the bank. The village of Maio is not located on the Sepik River, but one of its tributaries. Maio is one of the Kwoma speaking villages of the upper-Sepik area [Andrew Moutu 19/02/04].

T.68624 to T.68639 were found in the plastic slide sheet now numbered C494/59/.

These photographs were probably taken during a field research trip by researchers from the Summer Institute of Linguistics. Among the members of the expedition are Patricia K Townsend, William H Townsend and T Wayne Dye. An initial report on the research is given by Dye, Townsend and Townsend (1968) [Mark Elliott 04/03/04].
