Description
A group of Arnhem Land women and children and a non-native woman gathered in front of a corrugated iron building at Maningrida. Many of the children appear to be drinking from enamel cups, and there is a line of women holding cups beside the building. (Photograph is possibly of a ‘Baby Clinic’?, or food store?.) Place: Maningrida settlement, to the east of Darwin, was set up as a Government welfare department settlement after World War II. People from other areas in north east Arnhem Land would use it as a place to meet. Some of the photographs are from the settlement and Maningrida beach. It is now a town.
