Description

A scene in Lagos of police clearing an area for a play. The police are dressed in khaki shorts and tops, wearing berets and holding sticks. In the background is a group of spectators. A three story building is behind made of concrete blocks consisting ofshop on the ground floor with the sign “Alhaji Ibrahim Saidu” above large wooden doors, windows with shutters on the first and second floors are open with spectators watching, some with balconies. Also visible are power lines.

Context: GI Jones photographed a masquerade in Lagos in the 1930s. He did not record what the name of the play was or what it was about. There are no written documents pertaining to this play.
