Description
A Swazi Impi (an armed body of native warriors involved in urban and rural conflict) annotated as the body guard of King Sobuza marching along a road. The Impi and guard consist of an extensive number of warriors (probably exceeding 200 men), predominantly carrying decorated skin shields and spears, with the men at the front of the troop fording a river across the road. The photograph has been taken from an elevated position.
