Description
“Madagascar Imerina
View into large unfinished tomb. Each 'bed' (shelf) belongs to a separate branch of a family. The entrance is always to the west. The carving found only in expensive tombs & is probably comparatively recent. Traditionally the stones must be stone hammered & not touched by metal in their preparation. The bottom bed is not used & considered part of floor; it may have been used for storing goods buried with the dead originally.”
