Description

Sudanese man decorating the clay flask as part of the process for making a coffee pot. The list accompanying the image states: “The flask has been scraped with a knife, rubbed smooth with sandstone and is in the process of being polished with a conch shell as shown in photo E” [manuscript in ink]. The man squats in corner of adobe building surrounded by gourd, wood, and basketry containers, with boy squatting next to him and second boy sitting on wood and woven raffia? stool to the left.

P.55909.RDG and N.55914.RDG were found inside the envelope C259/2/ which was inside C259/. The latter was found in wooden drawer 1.
