Description

Sudanese man joining two shaped cups together as part of the process for making a coffee pot. The list accompanying the image states: “Bulb showing mode of joining two of the hemispherical cups
A hole is cut in the centre of one of the cups and they are then placed together so that their edges overlap alternately in different ways. The middle finger of one hand is processed through the hole and enables the junction to be welded by means of the thumb (photo D)” [manuscript in ink]. The man squats in corner of adobe building surrounded by gourd, wood, and basketry containers, with boy sitting on wood and woven raffia? stool to the left.

P.55909.RDG and N.55914.RDG were found inside the envelope C259/2/ which was inside C259/. The latter was found in wooden drawer 1.
