Description

Spirit-medium (dangki, tang-ki) at a Chinese temple associated with Ch'i-t'ien Ta-sheng (齊天大聖, qi tian da sheng, 'Great Saint Equal with Heaven' (commonly transcribed as the 'Monkey God'), in Singapore [Elliott's listing], probably the former Soon Tian Keng (Shun Tian Gong) at Bukit Permei.

The medium, a man has his face painted red and wears a headdress and stomacher (siu-to). He is standing behind an offering table at which a second man, wearing a short-sleeved shirt and with a cigarette in his mouth, is laying out printed papers, probably fu (charm papers).
Above the table is a spike ball with a tassel attached to the bottom. [EB 11/01/2023]
