Description

Festival at a Chinese temple in Jalan Kebaya, Singapore, dedicated to the Lord of Black Heaven (xuan tian shang di), Third Prince (Nezha, The Third Prince, san tai zi), and the Great Saint (da shen). [description in Elliott 1955: pp. 127-128] .

Inside the temple, the spirit-medium (a young man wearing a white apron and silk stomacher, falls back into the arms of a second man, similarly dressed. Behind them is a boy with a drum and a small group of men, boys and a woman. There is a candle in the foreground and a fringed cloth hangs from the ceiling. [EB 03/08/2022]
