Photographer: “Born in Luxor, Attaia Gaddis (1887-1972) grew up in the heart of Egypt's most impressive historical sights. During World War I, Gaddis was the only Egyptian photographer documenting his country's cultural heritage. With a collection of approximately 2000 prints, his pictures cover everything from the Nubian tribes in the south, to the Pyramids of Giza in the north.” [Source: Egypt’s Virtual Khan el-Khalili, www.virtualkhan.com/, JD 13/10/2006]
