Dancing at possibly the ‘New Moon festival’?, with a crowd of Banyoro? people celebrating in the Royal enclosure?. In the foreground, a man wearing a white tunic and dark jacket is dancing. In the background there is a group of Banyoro? men playing large drums, and a number of spectators watching on. A native-style hut is to the right, and a fence of elephant grass is in the background. P.49940.ACH2. to P.50013.ACH2. were found in envelope now marked C210/6/. This was found in another envelope now marked C210/ which came from the wooden drawer 1.
Place: The Place field was previously recorded as being "Africa; ?North East Africa; Africa; ?East Africa", but the print is inscribed with "Roscoe", which suggests that the photo is from Ankole, Uganda. The image content is consistent with Roscoe’s photographs of Royal Processions and ‘New Moon’ festivals. The Place field has been amended accordingly. [JD 2/6/2009]
