A group of five "Palace Malays" and one boy sit on the ground of a ?palace compound, playing "chess" around a carved wooden board with small pieces on it.
In the background, standing inside the ?porch of a building, stands a ?British man in a white suit, probably one of the Cambridge Expedition members. [LC 1/3/2007]

Place: According to Skeat’s writing on the duplicate of this image, P.46154.SKT, this picture was taken in the courtyard of the palace, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. However, if the photographer was indeed Gwynne-Vaughan, it is unlikely to have been taken in Kota Bharu, as he had left for England by the time the party got there. [Gibson-Hill, C.A. 1953.
