Description

“Model of an outrigger canoe from Nonuti (Peabody Museum, Salem), hull of typical Gilbertese form, outrigger attachment of Marshall Islands pattern; model probably once had straight stachion inserted between end of each straight boom and float; hull, being made of strips of palm leaf, fails to show peculiar curved run of strakes and way in which each is made up of ‘patches’.”
