Description

The Katikiro (Prime Minister) Apolo Kagwa, with his family and their milk-pots seated in the Royal enclosure? made from elephant grass?. In the background the Katikiro is seated on a chair wearing a white fez and a kanzu (white tunic). Next to him there are two women? wearing the traditional head-cover and three young children. In the foreground there are a collection of milk-pots. To the left of the milk-pots is a man wearing a kanzu (white tunic) and a band around his head, and to the right there is another man? wearing a printed cloth.

Context: "Sir Apolo Kagwa, the long-time Katikkiro of Buganda was a close personal friend of Roscoe. It was to Roscoe that Kagwa entrusted his eldest son Blasio, whom he sent to England for education after the turn of the century. And it was to Kagwa that Roscoe turned to aid and advice in carrying out the detailed ethnographical survey, published in 1911 under the title: The Baganda: An Account of their Native Customs and Beliefs.
