Other Information

Bibliographical reference: Evans’ mentions the stories van Stein Callenfels told him when he visited Evans in Malaysia, and described him as "a huge man, six foot three high, very broad and stout, with a black beard and a voice like a bull. He was a great eater and drinker, and looked like the picture of Conan Doyle’s Professor Challenger, but on an enlarged scale. He was quite aware of his resemblance, and often spoke of it, claiming jokingly, that Conan Doyle had created the Professor on his model" (The Years Behind Me, p. 319). [SG 12/9/2007]
