Bibliographical reference: The temple is mentioned by Evans as a “fine Buddhist temple at the outskirts” of Singgora (The Years Behind Me, pg. 487). [SG 29/10/2008]
Place: Evans recorded Singgora as being on the mouth of the Inland Sea and mentioned: “I had visited Singgora before, and I also visited it afterwards. It was a picturesque place with a wall and gateway opening on to the mouth of the Inland Sea. It had been the stronghold of a powerful Chinese chief, more or less a pirate at one time, and there was rather a fine Buddhist temple in the outskirts. The shops were mostly kept by the Chinese. Access to Singgora was by a side line from the Singapore-Bangkok main line, by steamer on the East Coast of the Peninsula, and, later, by road from Penang” (The Years Behind Me, pg. 487).
