Photograph of Hall’s book illustration of a crowd of people ‘hunting the wren’ in Cork. The ceremony of ‘hunting the wren’ is carried out on St Stephen’s Day by the local ‘wren boys’. The wren bush is a structure of evergreens, covered with streamers and with the dead bird hung up or in a sort of cage. [JD 29/10/2008]
