Photographer: Francis Henry Hill Guillemard embarked on an extended zoological expedition aboard the yacht Marchesa from 1882 to 1884, traversing Kamschatka, visiting New Guinea and most of the chief islands of the Malay Archipelago, and passing by the east coast of Formosa in 1882 with landings near Hualien, Keelung and Tamsui.
