24. 22. Bow end of a Suau canoe, amuiua waga.
The solid anterior end of the dugout extends for a long distance beyond the body of the canoe. The breakwater, baragai, is carved in the local manner (see case 34) and is ornamented with Ovulum shells. The end-erection, taburi, is also ornamented with Ovulum shells, a typical finial, lili, is lashed on to the flat tang. There is a larged [sic large] carved bird on the outrigger. Each attachment of the float to the booms consists of two pairs of sticks (or connectives) which cross under the boom - an arrangement which occurs throughout the Massim area." [JD 28/08/2018]
