Related Archive: In Kathleen Haddon's unpublished manuscript 'An English Girl in New Guinea', 1914, p.109 for Monday 2nd November, is the following extract:
“The following morning lives in my memory as being the most uncomfortable time in the whole trip-that is, on land. My father and I arranged to visit the museum and take rubbings and photographs of some of the specimens there. It was a boiling hot day, the little corrugated iron museum was situated on a bare hillock in the town, and it had been shut up for some time. Never have I been in such a hot place, it almost took my breath away, and although we had some of the specimens taken outside in order to photograph them it was not very much better there."
