Related Archive: In Kathleen Haddon's unpublished manuscript 'An English Girl in New Guinea', 1914, p.111 for Tuesday 3rd November, is the following extract:
“... after two and a half hours’ run reached Tupusilei. The bulk of this village is built on piles right out at sea and has no connection with the shore, so that the inhabitants must practically live in their canoes. There are a few scattered houses on the shore and also a dubu, or club-house, consisting of four great posts, elaborately carved and supporting about half-way way up a wooden platform. There was not time to do very much, so we examined the canoes and took photographs and then went on as we wanted to reach a good anchorage that evening." [JD 10/28/2014]
