A group of 33 men and boys stand in their canoes in front of the village Kerewa. The men are variously adorned in feather headresses and with shell valuables around their necks. Alonghouse dominates the shore and stretches along its length. Several smaller domestic houses are also visible on the shore.

Hurley reached the village of Kerewa on Goaribari island in early January 1923, where he stayed taking photographs and collecting objects for several days.
