On Catalogue Card: “Joseph and Black Dog.” [typed text]

Full-length studio portrait of two Osage men, Chief Shonga-Sa-Pa (Black Dog) (on the left) and Chief or Governor Paw-Ne-No-Pa-Zhe (Not Afraid of the Pawnees, also called Joseph). Chief Shonga-Sa-Pa (Black Dog) wears a cloth headband, silver? ear ornaments, a blanket as a cloak over a European style jacket, leggings, and moccasins. Chief or Governor Paw-Ne-No-Pa-Zhe (Not Afraid of the Pawnees) wears a cloth headband, a bear claw neck ornament, peace medal, native shirt, and a blanket as a kilt. He holds a pipe-tomahawk in his right hand. The studio is decorated with fake rocks and vegetation.
