On Catalogue Card: “Bella Coola woman carrying ‘kan-nan-ny’. This is a ‘kusuit’ prerogative. When the supernatural power comes to the woman she is able to raise a weight which no other can lift. A rope is passed through a hole in the floor and several assistants below fasten it. They slacken it when she pulls, but at other times provide the supernatural weight. The woman’s power is made manifest to the uninitiated as a fungus provided with eagle claws.” [typed text]
