Collection: On catalogue card, top right corner is “Haddon coll”, which is different from the standard “A.C. Haddon. However, it is the same collection. [J. Perry 3/7/1998]

Context: Chouan [Norman Fr.,=owls] were peasants of Brittany, Western France who rose against the French Revolutionary government in 1793. The name Chouannerie continued to be used in reference to guerrilla warfare that lasted until Napoleon. [Source: Columbia Encyclopedia Online, JD 10/11/2009]
