Publication: A cut-out of a similar image of the same woman in LS.140219.TC1 and related text are published in Smith, K., 1920. Congoland: A Book for Young People (Carey Press, London) p.50, and captioned:
"The Decorations of her Tribe."
In the Author's Note, p.ix, Smith makes the acknowledgement:
"While most of the photographs have been taken with my own little camera, I am indebted for others to the kindness of several of my fellow missionaries in Congoland."

Place: It is possible that this photograph was taken in the verandah of the Baptist Mission House at Yakusu. See photographs of the brick built Mission published in Sutton Smith, H., 1911?. Yakusu, the very heart of Africa: being some account of the Protestant mission at Stanley Falls, Upper Congo. (Marshall Brothers Ltd., London), opposite p.84, and captioned:
