Description

On Catalogue Card: “Irado and her basket, Mer.”

At the edge of a road is an upright rectangular stone, named ‘Irado’ and next to her, her basket in the form of a smaller round stone with an indent. Beside them a young palm tree and in the background a grassy plain. [Jude Philp 28/5/1999, updated JD 7/5/2011]

Irado is a woman featured in the story of the Nam zogo. “When she arrived at Kop, she settled down there and eventually turned herself into the stone that stands behind that village, the stone beside the upright one is her basket” (VI: 52) which was used for gardening.
