Context (Field collection)
Pit VII and/or surface [The Accession Register includes a later note stating: 'Subsequently it was found that the pits had no reality and are therefore of no importance'.]. Excavated by J. Grahame G. Clark in summer 1931. The site known as Plantation Farm was identified in 1931 by Charles S. Leaf and Clark near Shippea Hill railway station; Clark cut a trial trench and donated the burnt assemblage of unstratified material to the Museum the same year. The site was more fully excavated by Clark under the auspices of the Fenland Research Committee in autumn 1932, the finds of which were donated to the Museum in 1933.
