Description (Physical description)
Annual Report: 991. One oblong coffin of rough, sunbaked clay (in fragments), from a 'pan grave'.
Event Date 24/4/1902
Author: Eleanor Wilkinson
Context (Amendments / updates)
The Accession Register notes this material to be 'Prehistoric'. But if this coffin is linked to the Pan Grave culture this would suggest a Second Intermediate date, or possibly late Middle Kingdom.

Context (Amendments / updates)
A large, oval shaped, sunbaked coffin has been seen though it is thought this likely to be that from Hierakonpolis and accessioned in 1898 and noted in the 1899 Annual Report (1898.524). This is based on the dimensions being detailed and that it had been reconstructed at the Museum. However, both idnos and Annual report numbers have been retained in the MAA Numbers field for further research.

Context (Amendments / updates)
The Annual Report from 24th April 1902 states there were 695 objects from Upper Egypt. These were numbered 299-993 and grouped together under the three locations Hierakonpolis, Abydos, and El Amrah. This is why all three locations are currently listed under the Place field.
