Description

Sherd from the shoulder of a Mataski Polychrome jar. Partially burnished exterior, orange-tan slipped; applied brown (and possibly red) paint in geometric motifs, surface is darkened possibly from accretions or differential firing; interior surface is grey and rough; fabric feel is powdery; core is grey.

Context (Amendments / updates)
When the Kechib:wa collection was packed for storage in c 1986 the pottery was assessed by museum staff and boxed according to type. These sherds were packed with Matsaki Polychrome material, which has now been added to the Description field.

Context (Found together / assemblage)
This sherd was found with Z 43379 [H] but is marked with two different idnos: Z 43379, which is from Room 88, and Z 43377, which is from Room 75. Since it is not clear is the correct accession number, the decision was taken to assign the sherd a TEMP number.
